Dry Conditions Spark More Brush Fires
Another brush fire broke out in eastern Sevier County on Wednesday. Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the flames of a fire that consumed 67 acres. That fire was threatening several homes, including coming within 200 yards of a neighborhood east of Sevierville. That fire is now 100% contained, but residents have been told they may still see some smoke in that area.
The Webb Mountain fire in the Pittman Center area continues to be active. That fire is now 90% contained, but has consumed 1,087 acres. That fire broke out during dry conditions and gusty winds last week. The cause of that fire has not yet been determined.
Two other fires broke out in the area of the Cocke County/Jefferson County line on Wednesday. The Under The Mountain Road fire in western Cocke County consumed less than an acre. The fire on Banks Lane in Jefferson County was a 13 acre fire. Both are now 100% contained.
