EBT Card Theft Continues
EBT card thefts are continuing. Charlotte Jenkins of Cosby says that she used her card at a location in Hartford and she had a balance of $276. However in the time it took for her to get to Newport and do grocery shopping, her account balance had been reduced to zero. Jenkins says she is the only one on the account and only has the one card. She did state that another transaction was showing on her account when she called the number on the back of the card to report the theft. She was told there was another transacation but they did not say the location where the transaction occurred just the date.
LJ Keasling of Parrottsville then told the Cocke County sheriff’s department he was notified that his EBT card had been used on 5 different occasions within 2 minutes at Lex News and Smoke Shop Convenience store on Lexington Ave. in New York City.
Last week the Tennessee Dept. of Agriculture admitted there is a problem with EBT card information being stolen by thieves using different methods. They are recommending that if you have an EBT card, you change your PIN often and keep a close watch on your balance.
