Education Freedom Checklist Now Available
Earlier this year, the Tennessee Genral Assembly passed legislation that was then signed by the governor that gives public school students the chance to be granted a voucher that can be used to go towards tuition at a private school.
On Thursday, The Tennessee Department of Education released a checklist for families who are wanting to take advantage of this new opportunity. According to the Department of Education, there will be 20,000 scholarships open for the 2025-26 school year. 10,000 Universal Scholarships will be open to any eligible student. Another 10,000 Qualified Scholarships will be reserved for eligible students based on income, IEA or Individualized Education Account Program eligibility, and ESA or Education Savings Account Program Eligibility.
Eligibility requirements for all applicants include proof of Tennessee residency; Proof of the students US Citizenship or Lawful Prescence in the US; The student can have no more than 13 years in school from K-12th grade; and the applying student has to be 5 years of age by September 30, 2025.
