Foothills Parkway Closed Due To High Winds

March is about to go out like a lion. High winds are forecast for the area today as we will go under a wind advisory at 11am. That will be in effect until 6am Thursday morning. Wind gusts of 25mph are forecast for Cocke County this afternoon, but kicking up to 40 mph tonight. Likewise in Sevier County…but in Gatlinburg they could see wind gusts of 70 mph tonight. In preparation for the high winds in the mountains, the National Park Service is getting ready to close several roads in the park. Those closures include the Foothills Parkway East in Cocke County. The Foothills Parkway will close to traffic at 10 am this morning. Also closing at that time will be Newfound Gap Road and Cades Cove Road. Sustained winds of 35-45 mph are expected with gusts up to 80 mph expected tonight in those areas.
