Funding To Help Bring High Speed Internet Service
The state of Tennessee is about to receive nearly a billion dollars of federal funding to help bring high speed internet service to those areas that do not yet have access to it. The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced Monday that it has allocated $42.45 billion in funding to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five US territories in an effort to get high speed internet service to all Americans by the year 2030. Tennessee will be getting $813 million of that federal money. According to an analysis by the Federal Communications Commission, more than 7% of the country is underserved when it comes to high speed internet. However in a recent survey, Tennessee comes in third as a the states with the most high speed internet access. 48.3% of households in Tennessee currently have high speed internet. The top two states were Minnesota at #2, North Dakota was at number one.
