Gas Prices Continue Upward
Gas prices continue to rise…and how. The national average for a gallon of gas is now $4.91. That’s up nearly 30 cents from a week ago and 60 cents from just a month ago. It’s nearly a $2 increase since June of 2021…when the average price was just over 3 dollars. The southeast continues to have the lowest gas prices in the nation with prices averaging from $4.33 to $4.59. The current average price in Tennessee is $4.56. The Chattanooga area has some of the lowest prices averaging $4.48 while Nashville has the highest price at $4.60. Here in Cocke County, exit 435 continues to have the highest prices with most stations being at $4.59. Otherwise you’ll pay around $4.49 a gallon elsewhere. There are now 10 states with gas prices averaging over $5 a gallon.
To make the pain even worse…20 years ago in 2002…the average gas price in the US was $1.36. Just two years ago in Tennessee we were paying $1.71.
