Gas Prices On The Rise As Holiday Travel Begins
As you drive into work this morning and stop to get gas, you might get a little shock when you look at the price at the pump. Gas prices have jumped up as much as 15 cents in the last couple days at some locations in Newport. This happening just before the holiday travel period begins on Saturday.
Average price in Cocke County is now up to $2.59 a gallon for regular. Greene County has the lowest average price of $2.49 as of Thursday morning. Sevier County has the highest average price at $2.64. All counties in East Tennessee but one are below the state average price of $2.72. That one county is Washington County at $2.73. The highest gas prices in Tennessee are in middle and west Tennessee with Williamson County having the highest average price at $3.08. That is higher than the national average and is the only county in Tennessee with gas prices north of $3.
The national average for a gallon of regular right now sits at $3.04.The lowest average price is in Oklahoma at $2.58. The highest is in Hawaii at $4.54. California is the only other state with prices higher than $4 a gallon. The average price in the Golden State is $4.31.
