Gatlinburg Hotel Partially Destroyed By Fire
Fire crews responded to a fire at a Gatlinburg hotel on Wednesday, 4/1. Around 2am, hotel guests at The Sidney James Mountain Lodge on Airport Road were awakened by smoke. One of the lodge’s buildings containing 20 units was on fire. The hotel was evacuated and fire crews were able to contain the fire to that one building. Several units in that building were destroyed by the fire.
The Gatlinburg Community Center was opened to the hotel guests. None of the surrounding hotels had to be evacuated. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours to make sure no hotspots flared back up. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Sidney James Mountain Lodge is located on Airport Road just before the intersection with Cherokee Orchard Road. It is family owned and has been in operation since 1958.
