Greene County Student Could Be Charged After Tik Tok Challenge
A student could be facing charges in Greene County after posting what was an apparent threat against a school on Tik Tok. On Sunday evening at 7pm, the principal at North Greene High School received an email from a concerned citizen about an apparent threat to the school.
An agent with the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security was notified and an investigation including the Greene County Sheriff’s office began. Officers gathered information and within a few hours contacted the student that had made the TikTok post. The student told investigators that he had posted it in response to a TikTok challenge. The sheriff’s office says there was not a direct threat of violence against North Greene High School. However the investigation is ongoing and charges could be filed.
Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt says that parents need to monitor their child’s activities on social media. Holt says this incident could have been prevented if an adult was aware of what their child was posting on social media.
