Hikers From NC Have Car Broken Into
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office is looking for someone who broke into a car in the Laurel Springs Road area on Tuesday. Allison Melrose of Waynesville, NC and Nicole Mooradin of Clemmons, NC told the sheriff’s office they had parked their car near the Maddron Bald Trailhead in Cosby around 6am to go on a hike. Around 11am, they met someone on the trail who told them that a car had been broken into. The person described the car and Mooradin knew it was their Honda Civic. They returned to their vehicle and found both the front and back passenger windows had been broken out. Many camping and hiking supplies were taken as well as some clothes. The items taken included a North Face 3 person tent. The women estimated their loss of items stolen and damage to the vehicle to be around $2900.
