Hit And Run Leads To Arrest
Those having lunch at one of the fast food restaurants on Cosby Hwy in Newport were treated to a little more than a bite to eat Wednesday afternoon. Police had been notified about a hit and run accident that occurred in front of the KFC. Witnesses told police the vehicle had left the scene and had gotten onto I-40 East bound. Officers were then informed the vehicle had gotten off at Exit 440 and did a u-turn getting back on I-40 westbound. A vehicle matching the description given was spotted getting off at exit 435 at a high rate of speed and it turned northbound onto Cosby Hwy. Cocke County deputies along with Newport officers then boxed the vehicle in at the Hardees location on Cosby Hwy. The driver was identified as 62 year old Juan Green of Parrottsville. He had a revoked license due to a previous DUI. Green was determined by officers to be under the influence as an open container was found in the back passenger floor board. Green has been charged with Leaving The Scene of an Accident, Reckless Driving and Evading Arrest in addition to another DUI charge.
