Inmate Who Jumped Out Courtroom Window, Back Behind Bars
The inmate that jumped out of a second story Cocke County courtroom window is now out of the hospital and is back behind bars. Michael Dean Smith acted like he was getting a tissue Monday afternoon in while in the courtroom, but instead jumped out the window and landed on the ground below, between the building and some HVAC units. He was quickly captured and was transported to the UT Medical Center where his injuries were found to be non-serious. Smith was being held in the Cocke County jail and was appearing in court for a misdemeanor meth charge. He was being held for Haywood County NC authorities for offenses he committed in Waynesville. He will now be spending more time in Cocke County as he is now facing an attempted escape charge.
