Labor Day Travel Cheaper Than Last Year
This weekend is Labor Day weekend and is considered to be the last official weekend of summer. Many may be traveling for the holiday. AAA has looked at the latest booking data for flights this weekend and found that the top domestic destinations for travelers are Seattle, Orlando, and New York. The AAA says doemstic flights are cheaper this year, with flight rates about 6% lower that in 2024.
For those traveling by road, gas prices have remained stable with a natiuonwide average as of Thursday morning (8/28) at $3.21. That’s actually down from this time last year when gas prices were just above $3.30 a gallon. Here in Tennessee, drivers can expect to pay an average of $2.79 a gallon. Cocke County’s average price is $2.73. Elsewhere, Greene and Jefferson Counties are a little cheaper at $2.70. Hamblen and Sevier counties are a little higher at $2.74 and $2.76. The most expensive gas prices in East Tennessee are in the tri-cities in Washington County at $2.88. Hawkins County has the lowest at $2.61…which is the lowest average price in the state. Williamson County, just south of Nashville, has the highest price at $3.09.
Nationwide, the cheapest prices in the US are in the south with Mississippi the lowest at $2.73. The highest are of course out on the west coast led by California at $4.59, Hawaii and Washington State are the other states with prices north of $4 a gallon.
