Man Arrested After Holding Woman In Hotel Room Against Her Will
A man was arrested over the weekend in Newport for holding a woman and her son against their will in a local hotel room. According to Newport police, they spoke with a manager at the Quaility Inn on Cosby Hwy who pointed out two individuals that had been in an altercation in one of the rooms. At one point, employees at the hotel stated that they saw a woman screaming at a window trying to get out of the room. Quality Inn staff stated that the curtain rod in the room had been pulled from the wall and a cigarette had been lefting burning a hole in the carpet.
Police spoke with the two individuals at Kenjo Market next to the hotel. 31 year old Michelle Melton stated that she and 33 year old Cedric Mullins had been in an argument in their room at the hotel. She stated she grabbed her son to leave but Mullins would not let her leave the room and held her against her will. Mullins was arrested nd charged with false imprisonment, vandalism and domestic assault. Quality Inn management estimated damage to the hotel room to be around $300.
