Man Arrested for Public Intoxication Found Walking on Interstate
A Dangerous situation on Interstate 40 early Wednesday morning for a Cocke County Deputy. Deputy Zach Magourik was dispatched to the 448 mile marker at around 3am about an abandoned vehicle in the middle of 1-40 westbound. Magourik found a white Subaru with no one inside sitting halfway in the roadway. The keys were still in the ignition so he safely moved the vehicle off the roadway and onto the shoulder out of the way of traffic. Deputy Magouirk then went looking for the driver who he found walking westbound on the eastbound side of the interstate. When the deputy tried to apprehend the man…he ran out into the interstate and was nearly struck by a tractor trailer. Magourick was then forced to go out into oncoming traffic and grab the man who still resisted. The man was finally taken to the ground and apprehended on the shoulder of the interstate. He was identified as 46 year old Richard Arwood of Canton, NC. He told the deputy he had done meth and left his vehicle because he was paranoid thinking that tractor trailers were following him. He was taken to the Cocke County jail and booked on a charge of Public Intoxication.
