Man Charged With Burglary and Theft
A man is in custody after burglarizing a vehicle at a Cosby Hwy Hotel Saturday. the victim, Travis Moody, called police saying he had gotten notification from his bank about a possible fraudulent transaction. A check of Moody’s van showed that someone had entered through he passenger door, which was not locked. Moody’s wallet containing cash, his drivers license and bank card was missing. A check with the bank showed that the card had been used at Walgreen’s in Newport for $359.61. The card was also used at Weigel’s and BP.
A check of security footage at Walgreen’s showed the suspect getting into a 2003 Toyota Corolla. That vehicle was traced to the Haven Motel in Newport and the driver was identified through vehicle registration as Cayce Wines. A check with the front desk at Haven Motel led police to room 310, where they found Wines trying to hide beside a bed. He was taken into custody and faces charges of burglary and theft under $1,000 plus three charges of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card.
