Man finally Arrested After Standoff With Police

An attempt to apprehend a man wanted on several warrants led to a standoff with the Cocke County Sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office went to the home on Bonanza Road to take James Summers into custody. He was wanted on criminal warrants in Cocke County and several civil warrants. Summers refused to surrender and come out of the home. The sheriff’s office and the Newport SWAT team then surrounded the home. The SWAT team finally deployed CS gas into the home and minutes later Summers finally came out of the home and was taken into custody.

The Cocke County Sheriff’s office thanked those in the neighborhood on Bonanza Road for being patient while that situation was unfolding.
