Man Injured While Evading Police
A man driving a motorcycle was injured after leading police on a chase Wednesday in Newport. 31 year old Luke Gibson was spotted by police after he failed to stop at a stop sign on Kirk Street. Gibson then refused to pull over when Patrolman Eli Suggs attempted a traffic stop on Douglas Ave. Gibson then fled through a gravel parking lot between Douglas and Miracle Avenue. Gibson then traveled through another gravel lot onto Locust Avenue and then onto West Broadway going 10 mph over the speed limit. Gibson then turned onto US Hwy 25E and went through a construction zone at 65mph before attempting to turn onto Industrial Drive.
That is when Gibson struck a car, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Gibson attempted to then flee on foot but was brought down by a taser. Gibson was transported Gibson to the Newport Medical Center with injuries that included a broken ankle, and broken elbow in addition to cuts and abrasions. He faces numerous charges including two counts of evading arrest, reckless driving and possession of schedule II as one gram of methamphetamine was found on his person.
