Man Points Gun At Amazon Delivery Driver
A man was arrested after he pulled a gun on an Amazon driver in Newport on Sunday. The Amazon driver, Zachary Gerhardt, called police Sunday afternoon about an incident that had happened on English Street. Gerhardt stated that he was delivering a package when a man driving a Dodge Ram pickup told him not to turn around in his driveway. Gerhardt says he made another delivery at a different address when the truck pulled up and told him again to not pull into his driveway to turn around. Gerhardt says he approached the driver of the truck and had a short conversation before heading back to his delivery van. He says that is when the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him.
Police were able to use the address and a search for the vehicle to determine the driver of the pickup truck as 65 year old James Cureton. A warrant was then issued for his arrest for Aggravated Assault. Monday morning, Cureton came to the Newport Police department and turned himself in. He was transported to Cocke county General Sessions court where he was arraigned on the aggravated assault charge, then booked into the Cocke County jail.
