Man Shot In Back Of Head
A man was shot in the back of the head in Newport Saturday night. Police responded to the scene where they found 41 year old Luis Manuel Lopez Meza sitting in a driveway with a bullet hole behind his right ear. Meza was conscious but did not speak English. Using a translation software, police were able to speak with Meza’s friends who stated that two “homeless looking” males were walking to Jefferson Avenue towards White Oak Avenue when one of the two men took a silver pistol out and put it behind Meza’s ear and pulled the trigger. The bullet went in but made no exit wound. Meza was airlifted via Lifestar to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville to be treated. Police found a .40-calibur shell casing on the roadway near the shooting incident. There were no security cameras in the area and a neighbor reported hearing what sounded like one gun shot, but did not see anything. So far there are no suspects in that case so no arrest has been made.
