Man Wanted In NYC Arrested In Jefferson County
A man wanted for embezzling several hundred thousands of dollars from a New York City law firm has been arrested in Jefferson County. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Wednesday that a former Brooklyn paralegal, 48 year old Steven Cher, aka Vladislav Cherednichenko, has been charged with embezzling more than $400,000 from the law firm where he worked. The defendant allegedly stole from the firm’s Interest On Lawyer Account (IOLA) fund, which contained settlement money belonging to firm clients, and then used the money to pay personal expenses, including credit card bills.
Back on April 13, the Jefferson County sheriff’s office was contacted by authorities from New York that Steven Cher was living in the Dandridge area. Soon after, the suspect was taken into custody inside a residence on Privet Dr in Dandridge without incident. He waived extradition and was transported back to New York City to face the charges against him. In a press release announcing Cher’s capture, The Brooklyn District Attorney thanked Deputy Joseph Reiber of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for his assistance with the investigation.
