Man Wanted On Warrants Now Facing Drug Charges
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office made a drug arrest Tuesday night. A Ford Ranger pickup was spotted on Edwina Bridgeport Road failing to maintain its lane. That truck was pulled over. In the passenger seat was 45 year old Stanley Turner of Newport. He was known to have warrants against him in Cocke County and was taken into custody. The driver of the truck gave permission for the truck to be searched and a backpack was found in the passenger floorboard. Both men denied ownership of the backpack, but a wallet with Stanley Turner’s ID was found inside, along with a lot more.
Deputies found a black case with clear baggies, a digital scale, syringe, and packaged drugs inside. Found inside were three clear baggies with a green leafy substance, suspected as marijuana; a clear baggie with nine colored tablets of suspected ecstasy; a clear baggie with an orange tablet, suspected to be Suboxone; two clear baggies with a crystal like substance, suspected to be 4 grams of methamphetamine; and one clear baggie and one purple baggie with a brown substance inside, suspected to be hash. The combined street value of the drugs is nearly $800.
Turner now faces four counts of possession with intent to sell and two counts of possession of illegal narcotics. The driver of the truck was not charged.
