Man Who Crashed Garbage Truck Into Sevier County Business Facing Additional Charges
The man who hijacked a garbage truck in Knoxville then led police on a high speed chase into Sevier County before crashing into a business on the east side of Sevierville is now facing additional charges. 45 year old Shawn White plead guilty in January to the federal charge of Carjacking and a judge sentenced him to spend 292 months in federal prison and to pay restitution to victims of of over $442,000.
Now White is looking at state charges that include two counts of assault against a first responder, reckless driving, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest. Back on August 7, 2023, White flagged down a garbage truck on Henley Street in downtown Knoxville where he pulled a knife on the driver and instructed him to drive south on Chapman Highway. When the driver jumped out of the truck, White got into the drivers’ seat and led police on a high speed chase. That chase ended when White crashed the garbage truck into the Tennessee Hot Tubs location on Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevierville.
