Marcus Dehart Arraigned, Girlfriend Out On Bond
The brother of the man who shot and killed a Blount County Deputy was in court Monday in Blount County. Marcus Dehart was arraigned on a charge of accessory after the fact. Prosecutors say that he knowingly and willingly assisted his brother Kenneth Dehart even though he knew that his brother had killed a Blount County Deputy. Marcus Dehart’s attorney entered a no guilty plea for his client, who never spoke. Dehart’s attorney then pointed out that Dehart’s bail was set at $1 million and his office was filing a motion to reduce bond they deemed was excessive. The prosecution countered the seriousness of the charge and that bail was appropriate so they would be arguing against that motion. The judge set a conde hearing for Thursday morning, at 9am.
Kenneth Dehart’s girlfriend, Carrie Matthews is now out of jail on bond in Sevier County. Matthews was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact early Friday morning after she warned Dehart over the phone that police were at her residence.
A Sevier County judge released Matthews after she posted a $35,000 bond. She is required to wear an ankle bracelet and will be back in court on March 15.
