May 15th Begins National Police Week
Today is May 15, which is National Police Day in the US. President John F. Kennedy signed legislation in 1962 making May 15th, National Peace Officers Memorial Day. That has led into a weeklong celebration of law enforcement and also a week to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty. National Police Week begins today and runs through the week. Coming up on Friday, May 19, the Cocke County Sheriff’s office will be hosting a memorial service to honor those officers who have been killed or died while in the line of duty. That ceremony will begin at 9am on the south lawn of the Cocke County Courthouse.
