Megan Boswell Headed To Prison
Megan Boswell is headed to prison, this after a jury found her guilty on all counts in Sullivan County court Thursday morning. The jury deliberated for a total of 4 1/2 hours before finding her guilty on all counts, including first degree murder in the death of her 15 month old daughter Evelyn Boswell.
That includes First-degree premeditated murder; First-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse; and First-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child neglect.
The jury also returned guilty verdicts in the charges of Aggravated child abuse; Aggravated child neglect; Tampering with evidence; 11 counts of filing a false report; Abuse of a corpse and Failure to report a death under suspicious, unusual or unnatural circumstances.
After the verdicts were read, the court went into a short recess as it readied for the sentencing phase of the trial. During that hearing, testimony was given by Megan Boswell’s mother and grandmother. The jury could have sent Boswell to prison for the rest of her life, but instead decided on a sentence of life in prison WITH the possibility of parole. Under Tennessee law though, Megan Boswell will have to serve 51 years behind bars before she will be eligible for parole. That means Boswell will be in her mid seventies before having any chance at freedom.
During the trial, which lasted just over a week, the prosecution call 30 witnesses to the stand and offered mountains of evidence that showed only Megan Boswell was responsible for the death of her 15 month old daughter. The defense did not call one witness during the trial.
Sentencing on the charges other than the first degree murder charges will be handed out on May 22. Some of those charges could be merged during that hearing.
