Molotov Cocktails Thrown Into Home
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office responded early Monday morning after someone threw Molotov cocktails into a residence. The victims, who live on Hwy 160 between Newport & Bybee stated they awoke shortly after 3 am to the sound of breaking glass. A responding deputy found a mason jar in the home’s living room filled with diesel fuel and sand and what appeared to be an elastic material hanging out of the top. Another such device, commonly referred to as a Molotov cocktail was found after it had been thrown through a bedroom window. A third was found outside the home’s garage. The homeowner stated when he first looked outside, a portion of his yard was on fire. Diesel fuel was also found on the hood of a vehicle along with a burnt piece of paper, as someone tried to set that vehicle on fire as well.
The couple said they suspected a man who they thought was in Pennsylvania. They stated that the possible suspect named Richard Brown had been making threats against the family. The incident is under investigation.
