More Information Released About Gatlinburg Accident
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released a little more information about a traffic accident in Gatlinburg that injured seven people. The accident happened between stoplights 6 & 8 around 4:15 Sunday afternoon when a minivan “accelerated unexpectedly”, and hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The minivan then hit several other vehicles. One of the vehicles struck a road sign which then fell on top of another pedestrian, injuring that person. Three people were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville via helicopter. Three others were transported to a hospital via ambulance. The THP says that a medical emergency may have contributed to the minivan crashing.
According to the Highway Patrol, five of the victims were in two vehicles, and the other two injured were the pedestrians. The accident remain under investigation. It took till 10:30 Sunday night to reopen the Parkway for traffic.
