Morristown City Council Votes In Favor Of Flock Cameras
The City of Morristown will be getting Flock Cameras. The Morristown City Council met last night and voted for a resolution to add the license plate reading camera system to city’s roadways. Flock cameras are used by law enforcement to track down criminals. The cameras read a vehicle’s license plate number then run that information through a database to find if that plate number is associated with any criminal activity. The system then alerts law enforcement about that vehicle and its location.
Two people wanted on outstanding warrants were recently taken into custody because of a Flock Camera system in Jefferson County. That system is in Jefferson City. Knoxville and White Pine police departments also have the camera system as well as Hamblen County. Those cameras can also be used to locate missing individuals. A Knoxville camera system recently found a missing 85 year old man suffering from dementia.
The camera system will cost the city of Morristown approximately $35,000. It’s not sure when the cameras will be installed.
