Narcotics Officers Make Arrest Over The Weekend
Narcotics officers with the Cocke County Sheriff’s office arrested a man over the weekend who had been reportedly selling drugs out of the 440 Truck Stop off I-40. Officers observed 35 year old Patrick Wright of Newport go out to his truck Friday night while working at the truck stop and do what appeared to be a drug transaction. A second transaction then followed with two subjects in a black Ford Mustang.
Wright was then observed leaving with another person in a white Ford F150 and then traveled down Catherine Drive. With that truck sitting on Catherine Drive, narcotics LT. Max Laughter approached Wright and asked if there was anything illegal in his truck. Wright stated there was marijuana in the truck but that there could be other drugs, but he did not specify what type. A search of the truck turned up 7 grams of heroin along with a set of digital scales found in a black camo bag. Also found in the trucks eat was a Marlboro cigarette pack containing 5 grams of methamphetamine, Wright is now faced with charges of possession of both schedule I and II narcotics. Asst. Chief Deputy Chuck Evans and Narcotics Captain David Robertson assisted in that arrest.
