Newport Cinema 4 To Close

Bad news for movie fans. Newport Cinema 4 has announced that this summer will be the last for movies at the local cinema. According to a Facebook post, the increase in the cost of doing business along with a dramatic decrease in attendance since 2020 Covid 19 pandemic has been rough financially on the small cinema. Streaming and shorter theatrical release windows have dramatically impacted people’s movie going habits according to cinema officials. According to their post, they will be open for business as usual though the end of July. As a thank you to all who have supported Newport Cinema 4 over the years, they are bringing back the flat $5 movie ticket (tax included) for the rest of the time as a thank you. If you have gift cards, your encouraged to use those gift cards before the theatre closes. Newport Cinema 4 will offer a gift card buy back the last week of July but not before then. The owners say they have a prospective buyer for the building but do not anticipate it being a cinema in the future.
