Newport Man Charges With Assault

A Newport man has been arrested for aggravated assault after assaulting his ex-wife in a drive thru lane. Sunday morning around 8:15, Newport police were called to Walgreen’s about a man hitting a woman in a car while sitting in the pharmacy drive-thru. 47 year old Tina Howery stated she is in the drive thru and her ex-husband 58 year old Fletcher Howery was in the passenger seat. She stated they began arguing and she started to call police…that is when he grabbed her cell phone and began hitting her in the back of the head with it. When police arrived, Tina Howery was bleeding from the back of the head from her wounds…Fletcher Howery had fled from the car before officers arrived. A Walgreen’s employee confirmed the victim’s story. At around noon on Sunday, Fletcher Howery showed up at the Cocke County jail to turn himself in. He is charged with aggravated assault and interference with emergency calls.
