Newport Police Respond To Accident Scene
Newport police responded to an accident scene Thursday night at the intersection of Cambridge Dr. and Oxford Dr. A Chevrolet Impala was found sitting partially in a driveway and partially in the road. An unresponsive female was at the wheel with the car locked. The police officer had to break the back window to gain access to unlock the vehicle. The female, identified as 37 year old Beverly Maynard, was barely breathing, Two doses of Narcan were administered at the scene and Maynard was then transported to the hospital. When she regained consciousness, she told police that she was on her way to exchange a propane tank, but had stopped and snorted a line of heroin first. It was then that police discovered that Maynard had been involved in an earlier incident at Cosby Hwy & Heritage Blvd, where she left the scent before crashing on Oxford Drive. Maynard is charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
