Newport Police Respond To Crash At Court House

Newport police responded to a crash in front of the Cocke County courthouse Tuesday morning around 6:45. 17 year old Jacob Haney of Kodak told police he was traveling down eastbound on Broadway when he fell asleep at the wheel. When he woke he was sitting in the Empower Cocke County parking lot. His 2016 Kia Optima that he was driving crossed the westbound lane of Broadway, went onto the sidewalk, went across the southeast corner of the courthouse lawn, struck a light pole and ripped down power lines before crossing Court Avenue and coming to rest in Empower Cocke County’s lot. Haney had minor injuries and was treated by EMS. Newport Utilities responded to take care of the power lines.
