Norfolk Southern To Begin New Bridge Install This Week
If you have been driving on east Hwy 25-70, you have been seeing those big cranes down by the Pigeon River. The Norfolk Southern Railroad is coninuing their work to replace the railroad trestle that was destroyed by the September 27 flood. This week will mark a huge step in restoring that railroad. The new railroad bridge is set to be installed this week. Norfolk Southern says they are on track to meet their goal of having the railroad back open between Grovestone, North Carolina and Newport by the end of this month. This railroad line runs from Salisbury, NC to Morristown. Multiple areas of that track were washed out by the flood. Norfolk Southern says their engineers removed over 15,000 trees from the track after the flood.
