Ole Smokey Moonshine Pay Tribute To Popcorn Sutton
On Friday in Gatlinburg, dignitaries and members of the media gathered at Ole Smokey Moonshine in The Holler to celebrate a Cocke County legend. Popcorn Sutton’s legendary moonshine is being revived by Ole Smokey in Gatlinburg, and they are staying true to Popcorn’s roots.
Pam Sutton, who still resides in Cocke County, says Ole Smokey Moonshine founder Joe Baker approached her back in 2019 about keeping Popcorn Sutton’s memory alive by bringing that iconic brew back to life. Using Popcorn Sutton’s very own handwritten recipe, Ole Smokey has been able to duplicate what Popcorn Sutton used to make in the mountains of Cocke County. Pam Sutton says that Popcorn referred to his “Likker” as the champagne of moonshine. Therefore, the moonshine that made Popcorn Sutton famous is being marketed in champagne style bottles.
Besides “Popcorn Sutton’s Likker”, Ole Smokey has blended Tennessee and North Carolina whiskeys together to come up with “Popcorn Sutton’s Tennessee Bourbon Whiskey”. The bourbon pays tribute to the two states that Popcorn Sutton had ties to.
Both products are currently only available at Ole Smokey locations in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Nashville. Pam Sutton says there are plans, once enough product is made, to expand into local liquor stores around the area.
The new spirits from Ole Smokey Moonshine capture the outlaw spirit of an East Tennessee legend. Pam Sutton stated that Popcorn lived and died on his own terms and he would be proud to see his legacy being kept alive by this new partnership between his wife and Ole Smokey Moonshine.
Ole Smokey Moonshine was founded in 2010 in Gatlinburg. Their products can now be found all over the globe.
