Police Arrest Two Woman With Various Crimes
Two women have been arrested and charged with various crimes after being found passed out in a running pickup truck on Melton Ave. in Newport Sunday evening. Officers found 55 year old Shaleen Raines unresponsive. After being administered Narcan, she was transported to the Newport Medical Center. The other woman in the truck was 35 year old Brittany Fines. She was found passed out at the wheel of the truck with it in gear and her foot on the brake pedal. A search of the truck saw officers find a Glock 19 9mm handgun, a set of digital scales, numerous small blue baggies, and 2 folded up pieces of tin foil, that once opened, contained what police believed is to be powdered fentanyl, possibly mixed with heroin…which is referred to as the drug “gray death”. the total of the powder was one gram.
A witness told police that prior to the woman passing out, a white Honda had driven up and parked in front of the truck. An unknown individual got out of the Honda and into the truck. A few minutes later that person got back into the Honda and left. The incident happened within 500 ft of a playground that was on Alex St which connects to Melton Ave. Both woman face a long list of charges including drug charges, possession of a handgun while under the influence, possession of prohibited weapons and using drugs near a school zone.
