Police Pursuit Ends In Arrest
A police pursuit that started on Cosby Hwy in Newport ended in the county with a man in custody. Police had spotted a vehicle with just one headlight on Cosby Hwy. When the police cruiser pulled in behind that vehicle, a silver Mercedes, the driver sped from 40 to 55 mph and a traffic stop was attempted near Wal-Mart. the driver of the Mercedes refused to pull over and increased its speed to around 100 mph swerving from lane to lane and nearly causing several accidents. The pursuit turned onto Bogard Rd reaching speeds of 60mph on that road before turning onto Bogard view Way. The driver of the Mercedes then drove off the road and into a field, where he attempted to flee on foot. However, that driver, 39 year old Joshua Patterson, was caught at gunpoint and arrested. Patterson told police he fled because he had a large amount of methamphetamine in his vehicle. Officers recovered a bag with 17.2 grams of meth inside. A gun holster was also found, but no gun was recovered in the vehicle. Patterson faces numerous charges including manufacture, sale or delivery of methamphetamine; Reckless Driving; and Evading Arrest.
