Police Pursuit Stolen Vehicle In Chase

A stolen vehicle led to a multi county pursuit of a suspect Monday. Newport police were called to a residence on North Susong Street early Monday morning about a GMC pickup that had been stolen and the suspect fled towards Smith Street. Patrolman Paul Weber gave chase as the suspect drove the stolen truck into Greene County, then Hamblen County, into Jefferson County and finally crossing back into Cocke County. The suspect was clocked at speeds of over 100 miles an hour during the police pursuit. The suspect, 44 year old Joshua Stout, crashed the vehicle into some woods off of Bullard Drive in the Carson Springs area. the owner of the vehicle , Nathan Owensby, was confirmed to be incarcerated in the Cocke County Jail at the time. He told deputies the truck was valued at more than $10,000. Stout faces a longlist of charges that include felony theft, evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
