Police Respond To Alarm At Shell Station
Newport police responded early Tuesday morning to an alarm at the Shell at Hwy 25/70 and Clevenger Cut-Off Road. Police arrived and found the front glass broken out. Video footage showed a van driving past the store on Clevenger Cut-Off Road, then coming back to the store and pulling into the back. However, a GFL Trash truck pulled in about that time and the van pulled out of the parking lot. After the trash truck left, the van could be seen coming back into the parking lot and backing up to the front of the store. The driver got out and someone inside the van then got into the driver’s seat in their place. The unknown man who had gotten out of the van could be seen hitting the front glass with a blunt object, then reaching inside to get something out of the store before climbing into the back of the van and the can then pulled out turning onto Clevenger Cut-Off Road then appeared to turn right onto Hwy 25/70 towards the interstate. Over $2,000 in damage was done to the store. There are no suspects at this time.
