Red Bulls Brings Competition To East Tennessee
While Tennessee fans have been known to toss goalposts into the water, Red Bull is inviting fans to keep the goal posts and themselves OUT of the water. The energy drink company announced on Wednesday that it will bring the viral Red Bull Championship Run to Knoxville on Friday, September 12th. The event is known for having fans attempt to capture a flag at the end of an inclined greased pole. Knoxville’s version on the other hand will feature a unique local twist. The poles in this event will be shaped like a standard football goalpost, which will allow fans to race in a series of head to head heats. The participant who is successful in grabbing the flag in the shortest time will be crowned the events champion.
The last appearance of the event was earlier this year in Philadelphia, but Knoxville is the first to use the goalpost as a head to head format. The run will take place at Volunteer landing Park and is scheduled to begin at 4pm on Friday, September 12th. Spectators are welcome to watch the event from the park itself or even by boat. Those interested in participating can register through red bulls website at https://www.redbull.com/us-en/events/championship-run-knoxville
Tennessee of course made national headlines when they carried the goal post from Neyland Stadium and tossed it in the Tennessee River after the Vols defeated Alabama on October 15, 2022.
