Road Traffic Expected To Be Heavy For Holiday Weekend
If you will be traveling over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house, you are going to have a lot of company. The AAA says they estimate that 49 million Americans will be taking to the roads for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, starting on Wednesday. 55.4 million travelers total are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period. This year’s Thanksgiving forecast is an increase of 2.3% over last year and marks the third-highest Thanksgiving forecast since AAA began tracking holiday travel 23 years ago in 2000. Their numbers estimate that nearly 89% of travelers will travel by automobile with just over 8% taking to the skies. The other 2.8% of travelers have alternate means of transportation.
In the area from Buffalo, NY to Erie, PA, they may be traveling by one horse open sleigh as they could see lake effect snows starting tomorrow and continuing into Wednesday. The rest of the eastern US expecting rain with heavy rains possibly in the northeast.
