Scottish Festival returns to East Tennessee This Weekend
If you’re looking for something fun this weekend…you can head over to Maryville for the return of the Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival and Games. The Festival was not held last year because of…you guessed it…the Covid 19 pandemic. This is one of the largest Scottish festivals in the entire southeastern US. There will be some great food…you will find the typical food you will find at festivals like funnel cakes, hot dogs, corn dogs…but then you will find things like smoked haggis that you will NOT find at other festivals. There is music from pipe and drum bands and you’ll see things like tossing cabers…that is a sporting event of people tossing things that look like telephone poles or large stones and the like. And….what’s a Scottish festival without sheepdogs….there will be sheepdog demonstrations. That is the Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival and Games going on over in Maryville this weekend….that event being staged on the campus of Maryville College.
