The trial for Sean Williams, the Johnson City businessman accused of producing child pornography got underway this week in US District Court in Greeneville. Williams made national headlines a year ago when he escaped from a prison transport van while on the way to an apperance at federal court in Greeneville. Williams stayed on the run for about a month before being captured in the Tampa, Florida area.
Before the trial began on Tuesday, Williams was offered a plea deal that would see him serve 55 years in prison without parole. Williams originally accepted the plea deal, but at the last moment, changed his mind. Williams is accused of three counts of producing child pornography.
The mothers of the three children involved all took the stand during the first day of testimony on Wednesday. All three broke down on the stand in tears while testifying about what Williams allegedley did to their children who were ages 9 months, 4 years and 7 years at the time of the incidents. Prosecutors showed explicit photos of the assaults. Those photos showed all three children were unconscious at the time, whether they were asleep or drugged. All three of the women who testified also were allegedly sexually assaulted by Williams.
Sean Williams faces up to 30 years in prison for each count against him, if found guilty.
