Sevierville Police Officer Resigns After social Media Post
A Sevierville Police Department officer has now resigned after comments he made on a Facebook page regarding a recent political incident. The incident happened in the state of Minnesota where there is a battle going on between local officials and the Department of Immigration and Homeland Security. During a townhall on Tuesday, US Rep Ilhan Omar of Minnesota called for the resignation of US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. A man then ran up to Omar and sprayed an unknown substance on her and was then tackled by security.
After that incident, Sevierville Police Department Lieutenant T.C. Faulconer posted a comment on a local news outlet’s Facebook page. That comment was brought to the attention of the Sevierville Police Department, who began looking into the matter and placed Faulconer on administrative leave Wednesday night.
Sevierville Police Chief Joseph Manning issued a statement saying in part “Comments of this nature are inconsistent with the standards and expectations of the Sevierville Police Department, particularly when directed toward an elected public official,”. On Thursday, Faulconer submitted his resignation effective immediately.
This comes about a month after two other Sevierville officers resigned under investigation after being in a one car crash on November 29, possibly involving driving under the influence.
