Six On Canoe Trip Rescued By Swiftwater Rescue Team
A Memorial Day weekend trip turned into a scary situation for a family. According to the Cocke County Emergency Management Agency, Three adults and three children were visiting Cocke County and took a canoe trip down the Pigeon River on Sunday. However during their trip down the Pigeon River, their canoe struck a tree, dumping all of them into the water. The three children were all wearing life jackets. All six were able to get to shore, but on the opposite side of the river. A TWRA agent arrived to help and soon the Cocke County Swift Water Rescue Team arrived. The Swift Water Rescue Team formulated a plan and were able to escort the six individuals back across the river and to the roadway side. All six are okay.
