Speeding Turns Into Drug Arrest
A Dandridge Man was arrested Thursday after speeding on Highway 73. According to the sheriff’s office, a white Volkswagen GTI pulled out of the 440 Truck Stop parking lot onto Highway 73 turning left and then accelerated in an aggressive manner Thursday afternoon. The Volkswagen reached speeds up to 90mph in a 45mph zone on Highway 73. The driver then turned onto Wright Road before pulling over for police. 44 year old Bryan Elswick of Dandridge told Cocke County Sheriff’s office narcotics LT. Max Laughter that he was “testing out the turbo” in the car, which is why he was going so fast. Several other deputies arrived on the scene, including Detective Katrina Baldwin.
During a search of Elswick’s vehicle, Detective Baldwin located one yellow baggie containing heroin, and a clear baggie that also contained heroin. The weight of the heroin was 3 grams. A baggie containing 3 grams of methamphetamine was also located. Elswick was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of Schedule I with intent to sell and one count of possession of schedule II. He also was charged with Reckless Driving.
