State Unemployment Rate Continues Decline
The unemployment rate in the state of Tennessee continues to decline. The Department of Labor and Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in April dropped to 3.5%. That’s down from 3.6% in March and 3.7% in February. While the unemployment rate is down for April, it is still higher than this time last year. The rate in April of 2024 was 3.2%.
According to statistics, between March and April, total nonfarm employment in Tennessee increased by 8,600 jobs. The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector accounted for the biggest gains, followed by the Professional and Business Services sector and the Leisure and Hospitality sector. Over the past year, Tennessee employers have added 24,000 nonfarm jobs in the state.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate remains below the national unemployment rate, which for April was 4.2%. Unemployment rates for all 95 counties in the state of Tennessee will be released late next week.
