Storms Leave Thousands Without Power- Cocke County Spared Brunt Of Storms
The storms that rolled through the area Monday afternoon packed quite the punch, and many in the region spent a night in the dark because of those storms. There were scattered power outages that Newport Utilities was dealing with in Cocke County. As of this morning, there are still just over 100 without power in Cocke County. The majority of those are in the Bybee and Del Rio areas. Schools were dismissed early on Monday in preparation of the storms.
However, to our north and west things were much different. At one point in Knox County over 40,000 were without power and according to KUB it could take several days to get the lights back on for everyone. Some people have been displaced after the roof was partially blown off an apartment complex.
In Jefferson County, nearly 12,000 were without power after the storms rolled through. The majority of those power outages are in the Dandridge area. As of 5am this morning, more than 2,000 have no power. Many of those power outages are along Douglas Lake. Nearly a 1,000 without power in the Swannsylvania area. Jefferson County Schools are closed today because of the storm damage and power outages.
In Sevier County nearly 5,000 people were without power last night. According to Sevier County Electric, nearly 1,000 remain without power this morning.
