TDOT Hopes To Have I-40 Open In Time For 4th Of July
TDOT says they now have a tentative date for reopening Interstate 40 near the North Carolina line in Cocke County. I-40, which was severely damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Helene last September had reopened in March with one lane in each direction.
The interstate had to be closed again after storms on Wednesday caused flood waters to taqke over the roadway and caused a rockslide near mile marker 450. Crews have been working hard to get the interstate cleared and repaired. TDOT says the plan is to have I-40 reopened to traffic on July 3, just in time for the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Currently, I-40 East is closed at Exit 447 in Hartford. I-40 west is closed in North Carolina at Exit 7.
